by OkeomaNews

The industrial action embarked upon by Nigeria Labour Congress in Imo state have crumbled the economy of the state.

NLC national leadership had last week announced that the body would shutdown the state following the state government’s alleged anti labour policies.

Our correspondent who monitored the development in Owerri on Wednesday observed that the industrial action had crumbled the economy of the state.

Key stakeholders of NLC like National Union of Petroleum and Gas Workers and Enugu Electricity Distribution Company had already shutdown their services against the residents of the state.

While many business owners have shutdown, others now work half days.

Petroleum have become scarce in the state owing to hike in transportation fares.

Few fuel stations that are dispensing fuel sell at higher prices as motorists besiege their premises queuing to buy fuel.

A resident said ” in Imo state, no fuel, no light, no cash. This suffering is getting out of hand. We are suffering. The government should quickly resolve this impasse with the NLC leadership.”

The Special Adviser to the governor on Public Communications, Collins Ughalaa said that the NLC chairman, Joe Ajaero had teamed up with opposition politicians from the state to fight governor Hope Uzodinma.
