Breaking:NSCDC nabs 2021 Imo prison escapee

The Imo State command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps on Friday handed over 28- year- old, Chinonso Kalu, a 2021 escapee from the Owerri Correctional Center to the NCS in the state.

Briefing journalists at the command’s headquarters in Owerri, the state capital before handing over the suspect to the officers of the NCS in the state, the NSCDC commandant in the state, Mattew Ovye, said that his command was committed to securing the state.

The commandant informed that the suspect was arrested around the Imo State cabinet office in Owerri on May 12.

He said it was in the cause of investigation that it was discovered that Kalu, a native of Akaeze in Ebonyi State, was one of the immates who escaped during the April 5, 2021, Owerri Correctional Center jailbreak.

While handing over the suspect to the NCS officers, Ovye said that Kalu would continue his prison service at the NCS centre in Owerri.

He said that NSCDC would continue to partner with the other security operatives in the state to make the state crime free.

Ovye, said that the other suspect, Isreal Akin, who was nabbed by his men on May 6 at the same place, was allegedly stealing critical government assets.

He disclosed that Akin would be arraigned in court at the conclusion of investigation.

When interviewed, Kalu confessed that he escapeed alongside the other immates at the Owerri correctional Center when it was broken in 2021.
