The burial ceremony of the candidate of the Labour Party in the Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo state House of Assembly election, Chukwunonye Irouno, who died few hours to Peter Obi’s visit to the state on January 6 has been postponed.
Irouno who was billed to anchor Obi’s campaign rally in Owerri had slumped and died few hours to the occasion after he visited Kanu Nwankwo stadium in Owerri, the venue for the political program.
The politician’s funeral which was billed to take place on Friday has been postponed indefinitely by his family.
A statement issued by his brother, Izuchukwu, on behalf of the family disclosed that a new date would be announced soon.
The statement read” With delight, I convey my gratitude to all of us who have continued to show immense Prayers, Donations and undiluted love for our late brother, Hon Irouno and the young family he left behind. Thank you so much.
“My earnest desire is that the fire of camaraderie, resilience, commitment and unity of purpose that is openly demonstrated here in the course of our sacrificial supports will remain our hallmark. With such attitude, we shall keep soaring like the Eagle.
“Thank you and May God Bless you bountifully. I am broken-hearted the more as we regret to inform you that Chukwunonye Irouno’s ( aka The Governor ) burial will no longer hold on 27th January, 2023 as earlier scheduled. A new date will be announced soon.
“As a family, we made this difficult yet unavoidable decision to postpone the burial due to concerns and love from our extended families and need to carry everyone along among other reasons.
“We understand that this change has caused great inconvenience for you and we are genuinely sorry.”
