Owerri residents lament as traders reject Naira notes

There is frustration in Owerri, Imo State, as traders and business owners have started rejected 1000, 500 and 200 Naira notes before the January 31 deadline as instructed by the central bank of Nigeria.

Many business owners in Owerri insist on the new Naira notes as Checks carried out by OkeomaNews showed that they are scarce.

Many banks in Owerri are not issuing the new Naira notes while the few who do only give out Smail raps of the newly redesigned notes.

Many Automated Teller Machines in town are still dispensing the old notes as people bemoan the development.

OkeomaNews gathered that some fuel refilling station operators who reject the old Naira notes before the 31 deadline are having issues with their customers.

The customers insist that the notes are still legal tenders till the deadline reaches.

The development had frustrated the ease of doing businesses in the state as many called on the government to ensure that business owners continue to accept the notes till January 31.
