The member representing Mbaitoli state constituency at the Imo state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Okey Onyekanma, on Monday, donated a 200KVA transformer to Umuocha community in Amawuhie, Ubomiri in Mbaitoli local government area of the state, to boost power supply.

Speaking while handing over the transformer to the community, Onyekanma, who was represented by his aides, Hon. Becon Duru and Justice Chukwunatu Nwafor, said that the transformer was a fulfilment of his promise to the people of Umuocha.

The lawmaker stated that the transformer will help to improve regular power supply to the community.

“Yesterday, I received complaints from the youths that the community had been in darkness for long and efforts made by the people to procure transformer had failed to yield results. I did promise you, that my office would intervene in less than 24 hours.

Today, in fulfilment of that promise, I handover this transformer to you. I appeal to you to guard the transformer against being vandalised,” the lawmaker said.

Responding on behalf of the community, the chairman of Umuocha, Mr. Chukwukere Elysius commended the lawmaker for his quick response to the yearning of his people.

“We are very grateful to our youthful legislator. For the first time, we have felt government presence due to this gift of transformer. We will always remember this gesture, when the time comes,” the Chairman said.
