Just in:  ex Abia gov, Izunaso jostle for senate Presidency seat

Few hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission issued Certificates of Return to senators-elect on Tuesday in Abuja, a former governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu ( Abia North) and Osita Izunaso ( Imo West) have kicked started the move for who becomes the senate President of the 10th senate which will be inaugurated in June.

OkeomaNews gathered that Kalu and Izunaso are the two ranking senators from the south East who are members of the ruling All Progressives Congress.

OkeomaNews further gathered that the ruling APC has zoned the senate Presidency seat to the South East zone.

While Kalu who ruled Abia State from 1999 till 2007 as governor is a retuning senator, Izunaso who was first elected as a senator in 2007 but lost a reelection in 2011 is also a ranking senator.

Kalu and Izunaso have both confirmed that they are interested in succeeding Ahmed Lawan as the next president of the senate.

While Kalu is currently the chief whip of the senate, while Izunaso is the first national organising secretary of the APC.
