BREAKING: INEC sacks Abia REC over Orji Kalu’s  victory

by OkeomaNews

The Independent National Electoral Commission has sacked its Resident Electoral Commissioner for Abia State, Ike Uzochukwu.

The electoral umpire in a memo on Tuesday asked Uzochukwu to keep away from this Saturday’s governorship and state house of Assembly elections in the state.

The commission also directed the administrate secretary in the State, Clement Ohia to immediately take full charge of all INEC activities in Abia.

OkeomaNews gathered that the now removed REC compromised the National Assembly elections in favour of a serving Senator who was declared winner in a controversial circumstance last week.

Sacking of one corrupt INEC official is a step in the right direction. For the fact that INEC has grossly betrayed the trust reposed on them in the conduct of a questionable election across Nigeriis, I personally do not believe that compromising the election is all the reason for the sack of Abia State REC. There maybe other sinister reasons such as presenting a scapegoat to appease Nigerians or even an undue punishment for not towing an official corrupt line.

My position is that corruption is wide spread within INEC and as such sacking of just one INEC official in ABIA state is disproportionate to the scale and press of the election compromise across the country. The INEC chairman having spoken severally with two mouths and unconvincingly is a prime suspect in this treasonable compromise of our election.

We have completely lost faith in INEC, and the most honourable thing to do is for the INEC chairman and the bunch of them in the top steering position to step aside, while an independent forensic audit is performed on the entire election system from voters registration/issuing of PVC cards through accreditation and uploading of results to announce of the result. The crime committed is highly treasonable and must be seen as such. Consequently, all those involved must be promptly tracked down and prosecuted.
