INEC to declare winner of Imo federal election today

The Independent National Electoral Commission on Monday announced that it was most likely that the results of the Nwangele/ Nkwerre/ Isu/ Njaba federal constituency of Imo State will be declared today ( Tuesday).

The electoral umpire had declared the election inconclusive was controversy marred the collation of results for the Njaba LGA.

The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner for the state, Silvia Agu, at a stakeholders meeting at the commission’s office in Owerri, the state capital on Monday announced that the much awaited result of the Njaba Local Government Area had arrived.

Agu said that the Njaba LGA results which Peoples Party’s candidate, Ugonna Ozurigbo alleged that been been mutilated wasn’t tampered with.

She disclosed that rather than waiting to get the results from higher levels like the ward and LGA levels, the unadulterated results as the votes were cast could be gotten from the polling units, where no room was given for manipulation.

All political parties and their candidates were therefore, advised to be at the INEC headquarters Tuesday  ( today) to inspect  the result and possibly announce the winner.

Ozurigbo of the PDP is leading with 16, 846 votes as against his closest rival, Harrison Nwadike of the All Progressives Congress with 6, 784 votes after results have been collated in three LGAs of Nwangele, Nkwerre and Isu remaining that of the Njaba LGA.
