Okigwe Assembly candidates accuse APC of plot to rig election

The house of Assembly candidates of the Labour Party, Nnaemeka Obiaraeri, his Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressives Grand Alliance counterparts, Ifeanyi Ozoemena and Sunny Chiadi, for Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State house of Assembly election have accused the All Progressives Congress of plotting to rig the election in the LGA.

A statement issued jointly by the LP, PDP and APGA candidates claimed that the ruling party is plotting to manufacture figures in Owerri against the wish of the people of Okigwe LGA.

The candidates called on security agents and the staff of the Independent National Electoral commission not to yield to APC’s demand of manipulating the figures of the election.

The parties said that the electoral irregularities APC perpetrated during the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections in Okigwe LGA were still causing ripples in the area.

They demanded that election should hold in the LGA and the true figures of the election announced.

The statement read “48 hours to the State House of Assembly election in Imo, the coalition of House of Assembly Candidates for Okigwe state constituency  have raised an alarm that the ruling All Progressives Congress,APC, has perfected their plans to write the result of Okigwe Local Government Area in Owerri.

“Addressing a press conference in Owerri yesterday, members of the coalition [ Dr Nnaemeka Obiaraeri, Labour Party Candidate,  Engr Ifeanyi Odoemela , PDP, and  Mazi Sunny Chiadi, APGA , explained that in spite of the monumental electoral fraud perpetrated by APC at the last Presidential and National Assembly elections  in Okigwe which is still causing ripples and mass anger in Okigwe , that APC is still very much determined to commit more electoral heist on Saturday, March 11,  2023  when the House of Assembly elections will hold.

“The coalition members declared that the Youths  of Okigwe Local Government and indeed the entire electorate  unconditionally DEMAND FOR  a free,  fair and credible election for all the political parties. They  sounded it loud and clear that they will not allow anyone no matter how highly placed to relocate any Electoral  booths in Okigwe LGA outside the designated locations on INEC register ..

“No elections held in Ihube, Aku, Umulolo, Amuro, Agbobu and Umuawaibu wards in Okigwe LGA on February 25, 2023 and no elections will still hold on these 6 wards on March 11, 2023 because of the terrible insecurity situations in those 6 wards 

“The Imo APC has exploited and still exploiting the insecurity in some parts of Imo state , especially, Okigwe in connivance with compromised INEC and Security agencies to harvest criminal votes that never existed.  This is electoral criminality of the lowest shame. 

“INEC and the security agencies must stop aiding  the Imo state APC in their electoral criminality in Okigwe.  No elections results should be manufactured in this canceled 5 wards for obvious security challenges there 

“The coalition also maintained that the ruling party has  perfected their plans to unleash more violence on the people of Okigwe thereby painting a picture that the area is insecure for the election also used the occasion to call on the Chief of Army Staff, Inspector General of Police, Director Department of State Services Imo State, the Commissioner of Police in Imo State and other sister security agencies to rise up to the occasion of protecting the lives of the electorate in Okigwe.

“They  insisted that their  parties  have  been confirmed beyond all reasonable to be ready for a free , fair and credible elections that meets global best practices .

“While insisting that no sane and patriotic citizen of Okigwe is happy with the situation of things in Okigwe today.”
