Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, Imo state has invented surveillance drone to curb insecurity on the campus in the state.
The rector of the polytechnic, Micheal Arimanwa, who spoke to journalists on the achievements of the polytechnic on his fours years anniversary, said that the surveillance drone was programmed to detect peoples conversations.
The rector said that the invention of the drone became important because of rising insecurity in the society.
He also said that the polytechnic had provided a Closed Circuit Television at strategic locations on campus and
Strengthened the Man O’War and other internal security outfits.
The rector disclosed that the school had established collaborations with village vigilantes so as to deal with any infraction in and out of the polytechnic’s environments.
Arimanwa, said that the polytechnic had zero tolerance for corruption, disclosing that some staff and students of the school had either been expelled nor demoted for indiscipline.
The Rector said that a total of N400,000,000 fund had been spent in researches in the last four years as provided by TETFund.
He said “in the last four years, we have invented Electric Car, construction of a gas-fired crucible furnace, invention of a rice destoning machine,. Invention of a coconut dehusking machine, construction of a palm-kernel cracking and separation machine, construction of a palm fruit digesting machine, construction of a presser machine, construction of a Cassava Grating Machine and development of a Surveillance Aircraft/Drone.
The rector reiterated his commitment to ensuring that a graduating student of the polytechnic, Ogechi Okoroafor, who made a viral video on social media claiming that she graduated with help of God and her private parts was not victimized.
Arimanwa said ” like I said, the panel is still sitting. They are still making their investigations. Once the report is ready the world will know. But let say it that under my watch, no student of the polytechnic, including the girl is victimized. I assure you that the right thing is done.
