by OkeomaNews

The supreme Court on Monday dismissed an appeal filed by Uche Onyeagocha against the nomination of Ezenwa Onyewuchi as the Labour Party candidate for the February 25 national assembly candidate  for Imo East( Owerri zone) senatorial district.

Onyeagocha was the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for the election who was defeated by Onyewuchi.

The Court in a unanimous decision described the appeal as brought by Onyeagocha and his party ( PDP) as “frivolous and lacking merit”.

It could be recalled that Onyeagocha and PDP had engaged Senator Onyewuchi and the LP in numerous legal battles over Senator Onyewuchi’s position as the Labour Party candidate for Imo East Senatorial District.

By this Judgement, the Supreme Court had affirmed Onyewuchi as the duly elected flag bearer of the Labour Party for the zone.

Onyewuchi was in February returned by the Independent National Electoral Commission as the winner of the Imo East senatorial district election having polled a total of 100,631 votes to defeat his closest rival, Onyeagocha of the Peoples Democratic Party, who got  87,229.
