Imo PDP women, on Friday, donated food items to prison inmates at the Nigerian Correctional Service, Owerri Custodial Centre, Imo state.
Speaking during the presentation of the items to the inmates, the state woman leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, Imo state, Lolo Ijeoma Domike said that the gesture was to demonstrate love to the inmates.
According to her, the PDP is a party that’s known for spreading love and kindness, that is why the party was nicknamed “share the money”.
“We are here to demonstrate love and put smile on your faces. We would like you to pray for the victory of our party in the November 11 Imo governorship election. PDP government will alleviate your suffering and grant amnesty to exceptional inmates,” she said.
Receiving the items on behalf of the inmates, the deputy comptroller of Nigerian Correctional Service, (DCP) Owerri Custodial Centre, Ekeh .C. Ekeh thanked the women wing of Imo state PDP for their kind gesture.
Ekeh, who commended the women for their benevolence, said that God would reward them for demonstrating love to the inmates.
One of the inmates, while thanking the women, narrated how the PDP governorship candidate in Imo state, Senator Samuel Anyanwu renovated one of the dilapidated structures in the facility in 2018 and prayed that he becomes governor come November 11.
He lamented that government is yet to fulfill its promise of amnesty to inmates who did not run away during the 2021 Imo jailbreak.
The items handed over to the prison authority by the PDP women leaders include cartons of soft drinks, cartons of biscuits, loaves of bread, beverages (milk and milo) and other food items, as well as physical cash.
