Imo Labour Party gov aspirant dies in Lagos

One of the 13 people vying to become the governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Imo State, Humphrey Anumudu, is dead.

Anumudu died in Lagos around 5:30pm on Friday, Okeomanews can authoritatively report.

A family source who pleaded not to be mentioned because he is not authorised to speak to the press, said that Anumudu, a renowned lawyer cum multiple billionaire businessman died after returning from a meeting from LP office in Abuja on Friday.

The source said ” Chief Humphrey Anumudu is dead. He died in his house in Lagos on Friday evening. He went for a meeting at Labour Party national office in Abuja and forgot a document. He flew back to Lagos to get the documents.

” He was billed to go back to Abuja today ( Saturday). On getting to his house in Lagos, he started losing strength. He was rushed to a hospital. Oxygen was immediately administered on him but his body didn’t accept it. Further checks confirmed that he was dead.”

Anumudu who had bought the N25M worth of nomination and expression of interest forms of the LP for Imo governorship election had in November 2022, bought and dashed 27 vehicles for the 27 Local Government Areas chairmen of the LP in the state.

A serial governorship contestant in the state, Anumudu was said to be the rightful winner of the 1998 governorship primary of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state before it was ceded to Achike Udenwa who went on to rule the state between 1999 and 2007.

Anumudu who hailed from the Obazu Mbieri Community in the Mbaitoli LGA of the state, was the governorship candidate of Zenith Labour party in the state in 2019.
