Breaking:Onyewuchi, Izunaso, Ndubueze receive certificates of return from INEC

Three senators- elect from Imo State, Ezenwa Onyewuchi ( Imo East), Osita Izunaso ( Imo West) and Patrick Ndubueze ( Imo North) on Tuesday received their certificates of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The issuance of certificates which was done in Abuja, the nation’s capital had relatives and supporters of the lawmakers- elect, coming to celebrate with them.

INEC had last week declared Onyewuchi of the Labour Party the winner of Imo East senatorial election after polling 100, 631 votes to defeat his closest rival, Uche Onyeagocha of the Peoples Democratic Party, who got  87,229.

Onyewuchi who is a serving member of the red chamber of the national assembly was first elected as a senator in 2019. 

Prior to his emergence as a senator, he had served as the member that represented Owerri federal constituency between 2011 and 2019.

Equally, INEC had last week declared Izunaso of the All Progressives Congress the winner of Imo West senatorial district election after Izunaso scored a total of 78, 349 votes to defeat his closest rival, Charles Ahizu, of the Labour Party who polled a total of 37, 029 votes.

The retuning officer, Casimir Akaolisa, said that the APC candidate met the requirements of the law to be returned.

Izunaso was first elected as a senator in 2007.

He lost his bid to return to the red chamber in 2011, after losing the primary election of the People Democratic Party to Hope Uzodimma, who is currently the governor of the state.

Ndubueze ( APC) was also retuned as the senator- elect for Imo North by the INEC.
