Civil Servants on the employ of the Imo State government on Tuesday shunned the two days nationwide protest embarked upon by their counterparts across the federation over the economic crisis bedeviling the nation.
The Nigeria Labour Congress had declared a two days warning strike to register their dissatisfaction over the economic hardships facing the country.
Our correspondent who monitored the level of compliance in Owerri, reported that the state’s government workers stayed away from the strike.
Government offices opened and operated in full scale in Owerri, the state capital on Tuesday.
The state secretariat which houses all the state government ministries and some of its agencies opened as civil servants arrived early and were in their respective offices as of the time of filing this report at past 3pm.
A senior civil servant at the state secretariat who spoke to our correspondent said that workers were in their irrespective offices discharging their duties.
He said that there was no memo instructing the workers not to join the protest but most of the civil servants preferred to be in their offices.
The Civil servants said ” we are in the offices working. We are working in full capacity. We didn’t join the protest. Though there was no memo asking us to stay aware from the protest, the workers decided to be in their offices working.”
