US based awards scholarship to Imo students to mark 30th birthday

A Nigerian student, Raymond Ejikemeuwa, studying in the United States has announced a scholarship of N500, 000 for secondary school students to mark his 30th birthday anniversary.

Speaking to Okeomanews, Ejikemeuwa, said that five secondary school students who are Imo origins would go home with N100, 000 when the result of the scholarship scheme would be announced on January 24.

He told Okeomanews that the scheme was to encourage academic excellence in his home state of Imo.

He said “I am Raymond Ejikemeuwa. I am a second-year graduate student at the University of West Florida, USA. For my 30th birthday on January 9, 2023, and to mark the International Day of Education on 24 January, I want to raise funds to support hardworking high school students in Imo State, Nigeria, through grants and study materials.

“This initiative is important to me because I have experienced difficulties in my academic pursuits, firmly believe that any student who benefits from this little opportunity will be motivated and have more reasons to work hard. These funds will be strictly utilized for the sole purpose, and transparency will be the watchword during the selection of students.”

He added “today the 9th of January, 2023, an application for every secondary school student of Imo State origin to compete for the money has commenced. The application form opened on January 9, 2023 (00:00 hrs CDT / 07:00 am WAT).

“The application will close on January 16, 2023 (11:59 pm CDT/ 06:59 am WAT on 17th January 2023. The Judging Panel, which includes distinguished American Professors, will be introduced on January 12-13, 2023.

“After that, the application will be reviewed from January 18-23, 2023. Successful candidates will be announced on January 24, 2023 (International Day of Education). Each selected secondary school student will receive 100,000 naira, which will count toward tuition and study materials.”

He noted that this has been on his mind, but he is happy that today his greatest birthday wish has come to pass. When asked about the challenges he faced raising such money, he noted that it was difficult because it takes God’s grace for people to bring out their money, especially with the rate of scams and fraud all over the place.
