People vote as LP, APC lock horns in Imo supplementary election

The people of Mbaitoli/ Ikeduru federal constituency of Imo State are currently voting in the supplementary election holding in the area, today.

Our correspondent who is monitoring the election observed that people are voting in most of the polling stations visited.

While there are areas that witnessed low turnout of voters, there were massive timeout of voters at Eke Amaehi polling in Eziama and Umuduruoma in Amakaohia in the Ikeduru Local Government Area.

There were also turnout of voters at booths 003 in Ogbaku ward and Umuchimawiri in Obazu Mbieri in the Mbaitoli LGA, respectively.

The president general of Eziama community, Maxwell Ozurigbo, who spoke to journalists after casting his vote, said that the process was seamless.

He said that the large turnout of people was because the people of the community were interested in being part of the people that would determine who represents them in the green chamber of the national Assembly.

Another voter, Kurunwanne Chukwudi, said that unlike before, the BVAS was working and people were voting without hitches.

He debunked the speculation that violence erupted at the polling station, leading to people scampering for safety.

But the candidate of the Labour Party in the election, Uche Ogbuagu, said that he was getting information of electoral violence in some polling stations.

He however expressed optimism that he would win at the end of the day.

While speaking to journalists, Ogbuagu debunked the speculations that he had withdrawn from the race and that he was arrested and quizzed by the operatives of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

He said ” I am a stable character. I have not withdrawn for anybody. I am the leading candidate. If there is anybody stepping down, it should be the other person stepping down for me.”

The ward collation agent of the People Democratic party in Ogbaku ward, Justice Nwafor, told our correspondent our correspondent that people were voting as of the time of filing this report.

The LP candidate leads the APC candidate, Akarachi Amadi, with 5, 056 votes.

Who among you guys will not try to enrich himself first, enrich himself second and enrich himself third before you remember that some people voted you in there?
